Most people would have turned and run the other way the moment they saw the kelpie, but not Stiles. Nope. He had to jump in and try to help even though he knew he was the weakest out of everyone, but still, he wanted to help.
And what did this helping give him? A lot of bruises and a busted lip. He had jumped in quite a few times, but after the third time he pretty much just stayed on the ground where he had been knocked away. Derek, Peter, and Scott could handle the kelpie fine without him.
With the adrenaline rush now fading, he could feel every part of his body that had been hit and it hurt. And it was going to hurt even more by tomorrow. As if that hadn’t been bad enough, here came Peter. Stiles looked up at him from his spot on the ground. “Yes. Always.” He smiled at Peter and then regretted doing it when the pain reminded him that his lip had been hurt. “Is it dead?”

“Yeah, right now.” It wasn’t like Stiles was stupid. He knew sooner or later something bad was going to happen, but it didn’t stop him from ever wanting to help whenever he could. He followed Peter’s gaze, but couldn’t really see anything at the angle he was at. He could sit up, but he honestly didn’t want to move at that moment. It still hurt too much. “Good to know.”
He might still be on the ground, but that didn’t mean he wanted Peter poking at him with his muddy boot. Stiles smacked Peter’s foot away when he kept on with the prodding.
“Aren’t you observant?” he asked in a sarcastic tone. He knew Peter was making fun of him. That was fine. He was human and they were not. It was the only reason why they got through it and, well, he didn’t. “Everything hurts,” he said with a straight face. He ended up rolling his eyes before he breathed in deeply and then exhaled. “Yeah, it hurts.”
Okay, he couldn’t keep on lying on the ground. He slowly sat up, groaning at every moment he had to make just to do that.
